Tara Sengupta
Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Tara has been involved in music for most of her life. With piano lessons starting at four and concert percussion lessons at thirteen, performing and now educating remain a central part of her life.
Tara’s world class experience has been on synthesizer, starting with the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps (2016). From there, after moving to Pennsylvania for college, she discovered Matrix Performing Arts, leading to five consecutive seasons with their World group (2017-2021) and the Member of the Year award in 2020. Throughout this, she also marched the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (2018) as well as the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps (2019), where she aged out of DCI with a bronze medal and the Fred Sanford High Percussion Award.
Since receiving her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and master’s degree in mechanical engineering, both from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, today Tara is a fuel cell stack development engineer for General Motors in Detroit, MI. On the weekends, she is thrilled to be returning to Matrix for her second year on staff and working with the World and Open groups as a front ensemble and sound technician. In the rest of her free time, she enjoys hiking, going to concerts, and visiting local coffee shops.
